EIP Summit 2026

Federal Councillor Albert Rösti, Head of DETEC

In his keynote at the EIP Summit 2026, Swiss Federal Councillor Albert Rösti outlined the Federal Council's strategy for safeguarding Switzerland's long-term energy security. He emphasized that ensuring a reliable and affordable energy supply will require major investments across the entire energy value chain, supported by close cooperation between policymakers, industry and investors.

Federal Councillor Rösti highlighted the importance of accelerating the expansion of renewable energy, including solar, hydropower and wind, while maintaining sufficient reserve capacities to strengthen security of supply. Looking beyond the coming decades, he also addressed the role that additional technologies, including gas-fired generation and new nuclear power, may play in meeting future electricity demand and supporting Switzerland's decarbonization goals.

His central message was clear: Securing Switzerland's energy future must not become an "either-or" debate. A resilient energy system will require a pragmatic approach that keeps all viable options on the table, fosters investment and combines technological openness with a continued commitment to low-carbon energy.
