Every year, the EIP Summit brings together leaders working on the energy transition — from investors and business leaders to politicians and researchers — in a historic hotel in central Zurich.

EIP Summit 2026

Agostino Scornajenchi, CEO Snam

Agostino Scornajenchi, CEO of Snam, explored the growing complexity of the energy transition and the importance of building a resilient, integrated energy system at the EIP Summit 2026. He argued that in an increasingly fragmented geopolitical landscape, energy security can no longer be taken for granted and requires infrastructure capable of absorbing shocks, managing volatility and ensuring reliable supply under all circumstances.

Drawing on recent developments across Europe and Italy, Scornajenchi highlighted the critical role of flexibility, storage and backup capacity in balancing a rapidly expanding renewable energy system. While reaffirming the importance of accelerating renewable deployment, he stressed that decarbonization must be paired with investment in complementary infrastructure and market frameworks that reward availability and resilience, not only energy produced.

His central message was that Europe is moving beyond a simple energy transition towards an era of energy integration. Meeting future demand driven by electrification, artificial intelligence, and economic growth will require coordinated planning across power, gas, storage and network infrastructure. Only by integrating technologies, markets and long-term investment strategies can Europe safeguard both competitiveness and energy security.
