Sunscreen is a group of solar power plants located across Italy, with a total installed capacity of just over 100 megawatts. Until 2025, it included a strategically located portfolio of 32 operating sites in Slovakia, which were successfully divested after a successful value-creation campaign. The sale of the Slovakian assets to a strategic buyer crystallized value for Energy Infrastructure Partners’ investors and concentrated our investments in the increasingly attractive Italian market.
The remaining 71 Italian operating sites are distributed across Italy, contributing to the country’s growing solar market and supporting the broader energy transition.
Sunscreen is held in partnership with ContourGlobal, an established independent power producer with a portfolio of more than 5.5 gigawatts of operating assets. ContourGlobal is an established independent power producer with geographical and technological diversification and a strong focus on renewable energy generation.
Over the years, the company has demonstrated a strong ability to improve operational efficiencies of the assets and implement value-creation initiatives. Partnering with ContourGlobal gave EIP the opportunity to develop a long-term strategic relationship, which has since resulted in further collaborations such as Mirror in Spain.
Feed-in tariffs
Most of the photovoltaic plants within the Sunscreen portfolio commissioned between 2007 and 2013, benefit from attractive feed-in tariff regulations, which are scarce in the market.
High levels of sunlight
Italy offers excellent locations for photovoltaic plants due to its high level of sunlight, especially in the southern regions of the country.
