Sunscreen is a portfolio of photovoltaic plants in Italy and Slovakia, with a total installed capacity of approximately 135 megawatts. The geographically diverse portfolio has played a role in powering Italy’s and Slovakia’s rapidly developing solar markets. In Italy, the photovoltaic plants are distributed across the country, while the Slovakian plants are primarily located in southern areas with sunlight levels similar to northern Italy.
Sunscreen is a strong addition to Energy Infrastructure Partners’ portfolio, made possible through the collaboration with ContourGlobal as industrial partner and majority shareholder. ContourGlobal is an established independent power producer with geographical and technological diversification and with a strong focus on renewable energy generation. Over the years, the company has demonstrated a strong ability to improve operational efficiencies of the assets and implement value-creation initiatives. Partnering with ContourGlobal gave EIP the opportunity to develop a long-term strategic relationship, which has since resulted in further collaborations such as Mirror in Spain.
Feed-in tariffs
Most of the photovoltaic plants within the Sunscreen portfolio commissioned between 2007 and 2013, benefit from attractive feed-in tariff regulations, which are scarce in the market.
High levels of sunlight
Italy and Slovakia are excellent locations for photovoltaic plants thanks to high levels of sunlight, particularly in in the southern parts of Italy.
Excellent partnership
Our industrial partner, ContourGlobal, has built a stellar reputation for consistently driving operational improvements and enhancing the performance of the assets.
Growing platform
The 2018 initial investment into approximately 100 megawatts of photovoltaic assets was enhanced by two additional acquisitions in Italy, specifically 12 megawatts in 2019 and 18 megawatts in 2021.
